Using green space in a popular local park to teach families about environmental health in Puerto Rico

PEHSU Region 2 Example Impact in Puerto Rico

PROBLEM: Hurricane Maria damaged a popular 600-acre park, La Marquesa Forest Park, in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Region 2 also saw a need for more environmental health education in the community about hurricanes and other topics.

SOLUTION: Region 2 PEHSU collaborated with the park staff to use the opportunity for its reopening to create six signs throughout the park that discuss children’s environmental health

IMPACT: When communities visit the park, they also view information on environmental health topics such as emergency preparedness, pest control, and hurricanes.
