PROBLEM: Hospital electronic medical systems (EMS) often lack information on environmental health issues.
SOLUTION: Region 9/ Western States PEHSU partnered with hospitals like UCLA Health and UCSF to connect with hospital EMS managers to further integrate the full series of more than 30 patient education factsheets, Prescriptions for Prevention, into the local Epic system.
IMPACT: This tool has been accessed thousands of times and is integrated into medical systems that serve millions of outpatient visits per year. Additional medical institutions are working to integrate the materials into their EMS as well. Health professionals can review these PEHSU resources with patients during clinical encounters and add them to patient’s after visit summary documents.
