

Disaster events such as hurricanes, earthquakes, and snow storms often lead to electrical power losses, searches for alternative ways to heat, cook, or power homes, and use of gas-powered equipment and tools. Carbon monoxide poisoning is, therefore, a predictable public health hazard during disaster events. This document provides basic guidance for health care providers to assist with the recognition, initial management, and prevention of carbon monoxide poisoning.
