As extreme weather events become more frequent and intense, their impacts on children extend beyond physical safety to include significant effects on mental health and emotional wellbeing. This presentation will explore how experiences such as wildfires, hurricanes, floods, and heat waves shape children’s emotional responses, including anxiety, stress, grief, and disruption to a sense of safety and stability. Participants will learn to recognize common impacts of environmental stress in children and adolescents, and gain practical, evidence-informed strategies to support coping, resilience, and recovery. Grounded in psychological science and real-world examples, this session will equip health professionals with tools to better understand and support young people in the face of a changing environment.
